Patient Comments

“I suffered from chronic neck and shoulder pain and a lack of mobility for years before seeking treatment with Andy. I’m an opera singer and the pain and associated muscle tension was affecting my singing. Andy has helped me regain very nearly my full range of motion in my neck and has helped me keep my thoracic spine flexible with a combination of hands-on treatment and exercises to do at home and while I am away working and can’t get in to the clinic. I see him regularly, and my breathing is much freer as a result of his help. I injured my shoulder last year during a bootcamp class. Andy has rehabilitated it, and helped me build my exercise regime back up so that I am back to doing the sport I enjoy.”

– Rachel

“Andy has helped me regain my confidence, from being very incapacitated and requiring hospital assessments, through to maintaining my mobility enough to go walking and running, and work gently down at my allotment.”

– Sarah

About Tess

Tess is a sports massage therapist and offers appointments at the clinic on Tuesdays and Fridays. As a recreational athlete and with a background in healthcare, she has an interest in all things sport, exercise, and recovery.

Sports massage is not just for athletes. It is a deep tissue massage that uses different techniques to prevent and manage sport-related injuries, aid in recovery from exercise and alleviate general muscle aches and pains. About Tess

Born in East Yorkshire, with the sea and countryside on her doorstep, she has always been very active and loves the outdoors. She moved to Newcastle aged 18 to study at university, following which she spent many years working as a medic in the NHS, before moving down to Chesterfield in 2021 and changing to an educational role as a university lecturer.

She picked up triathlon around 15 years ago and loves to spend a weekend running and cycling around the Peak District as well as competing in various events in the UK and abroad. She was introduced to sports massage many years ago and found it helped enormously in both preventing and managing niggles, injuries and general aches and pains. In 2022, she decided to put her interests and experience in sport, healthcare and biomechanics into practice through qualifying as a sports massage therapist, initially gaining her level 3 qualification and later progressing to level 4.

Your first appointment with Tess will include a postural assessment, range of movement testing and first sports massage, followed by a treatment plan that is aligned to your individual lifestyle and goals.

About Sarah-Jane

Born in Nottingham, she moved to the Scottish Borders at the age of 30 before returning South, and has been living in the Chesterfield area since 2014. After an exhausting 23 year career in the Events Industry both at home and overseas, her focus became her husband, who lives with Cystic Fibrosis and its challenges.

Introduced to Pilates over 17 years ago as an exercise to complement and complete her sports training programme, which is now a blend of cardiovascular exercise, weight training and Pilates. She found that with practice and development her own Pilates was evolutionary, making her less prone to injuries and feeling ‘fantastic and awesome’! Inspiring her to found her own company ‘evolution34’ specialising in Pilates and Nutrition.

Small groups, couples and individual Pilates sessions are all available at the clinic, from complete beginners up to intermediate level. Small group sizes allow Sarah-Jane to really concentrate on each individual, making the classes much more beneficial for all. Sarah-Jane works closely with her clients, encouraging them to make small changes that may lead to life-changing habits and new behaviours, ensuring that they become more knowledgeable and confident.

Chesterfield Physiotherapy Clinic

Clinic Ethos

We commonly hear from new patients who have been seen elsewhere (including the NHS),that:

  • ‘I wasn’t listened to’
  • ‘They didn’t even look at the problem area’
  • ‘They just gave me exercises, which didn’t work’
  • ‘ I can only get an appointment once a month’

At Chesterfield Physiotherapy Clinic, we are fully aware of these frustrations and endeavour to address these issues right from the very start of your treatment with us.

The clinic prides itself on a patient focused approach, in order to achieve the best possible outcome for every person seen.

Some ‘short notice’ appointments are often available at the clinic. Our aim is to offer an appointment within 7-14 days of your enquiry whenever possible.

After a thorough initial assessment, the Physiotherapist and Patient will design a ‘Bespoke treatment plan’, best suited to achieve that individual patient’s goals.  Information and any specific exercises, can then be emailed to each patient as a memory aid.

The clinic has a variety of treatment options available, and it is definitely not a ‘one treatment fits all’ approach. (see ‘Types of Treatments Available’ section)

The Patient and Physiotherapist work together throughout the course of treatment. Both are involved in the decision making process and the direction of the treatment followed. It is very important to us that this is a fluid, two way process, that can be adjusted throughout as necessary.

The Clinic will endeavor to address every patient’s problem and any concerns that they may have, to the best of our ability. We aim to ‘improve your quality of life and how well you function’, wherever possible.

We also try to provide each patient with long term strategies, to enable them to self-manage a chronic or ongoing condition.

Research has shown that returning to sport purely because the pain has gone, can lead to a high incidence of re-injury rate, if the athlete is not fully rehabilitated in order to cope with the stresses and strains imparted on the body by that sport or activity.

Therefore, with this in mind, the Clinic also offers longer term programmes, designed to help reduce the risk of recurrent injuries, after the patient’s symptoms have resolved.

Whilst we cannot promise to fix everybody, it will not be due to a lack of trying to do our very best for every patient!
